A MAN has been taken to hospital after being rescued from the mud in the River Parrett.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue crews were called to the river in Bridgwter at around 12.50am this morning (April 18).
A rescue team from Bridgwater and two fire engines were sent to the scence.
A spokesman said: "On arrival, the officer in charge liaised with the caller on scene and confirmed there was one alert male on the bank of the river.
"Specialist rescue teams donned water rescue suits and secured the male with lines whilst they waited for the fire appliances with ladders to attend.
"The male was confirmed as rescued from the river bank. Lines and ladders were used.
"The casualty was left in the care of ambulance crews and taken to hospital via land ambulance."
