WORK is now underway on the new £10 million Holiday Inn Express just outside Bridgwater.

The 138-bedroom hotel, which is being built by Midas Construction on behalf of its customer Zeal Hotels, will be located on at Junction 24 just off the M5.

It is being built in part to accommodate future workers and visitors to the nuclear power station Hinkley Point C.

The ground-breaking ceremony has now taken place and the main construction phase will now get under way with a projected completion of spring 2019.

In addition to the 138 bedrooms, there will also be a spacious bar and restaurant, lounge area, two meeting rooms and car parking for more than 60 cars.

Grant Millar, operational manager at Midas Construction, said: “By using local contractors, the project will be contributing to employment and as a company we plan to give back by completing community projects in the Bridgwater area.”
