Paul Slaven, a spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, said crews were called to the incident at 9.10am.
He added: “A lorry has turned over on its side and it was reported that people were climbing on top of the lorry to help the driver out.
“It is believed to be carrying sawdust which has spilled on the road.
“Diesel from the fuel tank has also leaked on to the road. We are trying to mop up the diesel and make the vehicle safe by isolating the electrics.
“There have been no serious injuries.”
