MARCO Pierre White’s bar and steakhouse chain will be opening in Bridgwater’s newest hotel.

The four-star Mercure Hotel is expected to open in the town early next year boasting the MPW Steakhouse Bar and Grill – a chain which has become popular in Cardiff and Bristol.

Food lovers’ will no doubt be licking their lips in anticipation now the hotel is visibly taking shape.

A spokesman for Deepak Chainrai, managing director of DC Hotels (Bridgwater) Ltd, who is behind the scheme, said: “The long-awaited MPW Steakhouse Bar and Grill restaurant will become a destination restaurant for local food lovers and hotel guests alike, who will enjoy a selection of timeless English and French classics, delivered with Marco’s own unique flair.”

Mr Chanrai welcomed representatives from Bridgwater Town Council, Sedgemoor District Council and Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership to the site of the new hotel. 

The construction team has successfully overcome challenges in 2017 and the visit provided an opportunity for everybody to see the progress behind the hoardings.

Alan Hurford, from Bridgwater Town Council, said: “We are delighted with the progress being made on the new hotel and the prospect of opening early in 2018.  They welcome this additional accommodation to the town and all it will bring with it and not least in supporting the regeneration of Eastover.”

The guests were welcomed on site by Neil Cahill, project manager of Building Construction Solutions, who showed visitors around the ground floor. He showed them the under construction lobby area, meeting rooms and then the lounge and bar area.

Helen Lacey, Heart of the South West LEP board member, said: “I was privileged to have a tour of the new hotel, it is amazing to see the level of thought and detail that has gone into the building and how the local industries and Somerset feeling has been considered throughout either the products used or the interior design. This will be a great asset to the town and having the Marco Pierre-White restaurant at the hotel will be a superb addition to the town.”
