BLAKE Toogood has been left devastated by thieves who stole his pride and joy mountain bike which he got for his birthday.

The 12-year-old had his eye on the Carrera mountain bike for about six months before he was finally given it as a present on July 4.

Blake was rarely seen without his bike until it was cruelly snatched from outside Asda, in East Quay, in Bridgwater on Tuesday night.

Police are now appealing for information in a bid to track down the bike and thieves.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Mum Verity Weston said: “The thing that frustrates me the most is that this is a kid’s bike.

“It is reasonably new and he is absolutely devastated. Apart from his phone, that bike is his life. There is literally not a day that goes by when he is not on it – whether that is going to school or going to see somebody.”

Blake’s bike, a blue and green Carrera Valour was stolen alongside a Carrera Sulcata – which belongs to his friend Cameron Richardson, also 12 – despite being locked.

Verity added: “Blake thought he was going to get in trouble which was his initial reaction. He thought it was his fault he lost his bike.

“I can’t understand why somebody would steal a child’s bike. They were only in Asda for a couple of minutes getting some snacks for their lunchboxes.”

Bridgwater Mercury:

Blake is already thinking of ways to raise enough money to replace it.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Two bikes were left locked outside Asda and the owners went into the store.

“This was between 8.15-9pm on Tuesday night. When the victims came out of the store both bikes had been taken.

“Police enquiries are continuing.”
