A BRIDGWATER man is relieved after tracking down an anonymous jogger spotted him stranded in a river after the bank collapsed.

Michael Drewett was fishing on the River Tone in Ham at around noon on Sunday afternoon, when suddenly the bank gave in and he was thrown into the water.

He was in the water for an hour and a half before a male jogger, known as Gary, spotted him and called for help.

Mr Drewett and his family went on a mission on social media to find Gary in order to say a massive "thank you."

The man has been found using a Bridgwater Mercury Facebook post.

But humble jogger says he's "no hero" as he just did what anyone else would have done.

He said: "He discovered me and phoned the fire service. But once he knew I was okay he went on his merry way.

"It was very cold in the water, I couldn't feel my legs. I was told that if I was there much longer I would have lost consciousness.

"They asked me if I wanted to go to the hospital or go home, I just wanted to get home and out of the wet clothes.

"I was told to rest up and I'm feeling warmer now, but it took a few days.

"Gary says he doesn't want a reward - but i'll be getting him one anyway as a thank you."

Mr Drewett, 63, has been a keen fisherman for the last 50 years, and had never experienced anything like this before.

It is believed Gary spotted Mr Drewett in the river as he was jogging between Creech St Michael and Knapp.
