BRIDGWATER has a new takeaway with a difference, one which openly celebrates all things dirty, messy and tasty.

The Cow N Bun is based on Bridgwater High Street and was packed out for its official opening on Saturday.

One of the promotions that has caught the eye is the takeaway’s Beat The Meat challenge, where foolhardy individuals attempt to eat a burger consisting of eight 5oz steak patties, 16 rashers of bacon and topped with cheese.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Eat the whole thing in 20 minutes and the meal is free, plus you get a free t-shirt, but fail and the challenge costs £25.

Owner Mark Studley said: “The challenge aspect is just one of the things we are doing but there is already a lot of interest. If someone does complete it, that becomes the new time to beat for the next challenger.

“We will change up the challenges over time, for example I already have an idea for a spicy burger challenge further down the line.”

Mr Studley, who grew up in Bridgwater, said the Cow N Bun philosophy was to celebrate all things ‘juicy, messy and tasty’.

“We have a fairly simple menu with dirty burgers, dirty fries and dirty dogs. We have high quality ingredients which are locally sourced.”

Mark explained that he had been working in recruitment industry and started doing some private dining events on weekends and started looking at getting into the festival circuit, but decided to look for something more permanent following the death of his stepfather.

“I also did cooking for friends but it soon got a bit out of hand, we soon had 40-odd people coming over on a Sunday and I thought this was something I could do full time,” he said.

Mark creates all the products on the menu at the Cow N Bun and says he is going to change some items on the menu every eight to 10 weeks and try out various specials.

“I can’t believe quite how much interest we have had so far but I am delighted with how it has gone so far.

“I am a little nervous ahead of the opening, there is a lot of pressure, but it is exciting too,” he said.

“Bridgwater does have a lot of takeaways but I think we offer something a little bit different.”
