A NEW gym has opened in Bridgwater with one major difference - no men are allowed.

Word of mouth and social media has seen the C&S Fitness expand from five members to 90 in just nine weeks.

Set up by Simon Evans and his partner Charlie Lewis, C&S Fitness seem to have found a gap in the market and run with it.

"I was working as a personal trainer and swim instructor at Chilton Trinity, while Simon was an area manager with Magna and did personal training part-time," Miss Lewis said.

"Initially we held a few outdoor sessions, we only had a few members but it quickly developed into something bigger."

The first few sessions were not female exclusive, but the pair soon found they had a very high proportion of women coming along and decided to make the move to catering for women only.

Now C&S Fitness have moved into the former Curves Gym unit on Bath Road, and the gym is already going from strength to strength.

"I think women can find it intimidating in some gyms but here we have a very welcoming community and we have a lot of fun too," Charlie said.

On Monday night, the ladies arranged a surprise party for Charlie and Simon and the Bath Road base.

"It is very rare for me to be left speechless, but I was so shocked - we thought we were coming in to run a normal session and found food and drinks laid out. They are such a great group of ladies and they have organised this all themselves," Mr Evans said.

"The women clearly feel comfortable here, they are achieving results and having fun. We have even run a sort-of mini-olympics which the women loved."

Charlie and Simon say their gym is unique to Bridgwater in offering six weeks transformation programmes for women only, and say the gym has 'no faddy diets, no mirrors, no men and offers personal training, small group training and full body analysis consultations'.
