'NOT in our playground' - that is the message from Wembdon residents who woke this morning to discover offensive graffiti including Swastika's daubed all over equipment in a children's playground.

It is believed that the play area at Wembdon Playing Fields was covered in offensive graffiti at around 2am this morning (September 2).

Cllr David Gliddon from Wembdon Parish Council said that the community has pulled together to remove the graffiti with a group of residents working all morning to clean it away.

"It is absolutely disgusting that mindless vandals would pick on the youngest people in our society and deface their equipment," he said.

"I was shocked this morning when I saw what had happened, it is disgraceful that someone has done this.

"There was not one piece of equipment that was covered in graffiti, it is shocking.

"The parish council has spent thousands of pounds on this park over the years and its awful to see it defaced in this way."

Cllr Gliddon said he was 'overwhelmed' by the community's determination to clean away the graffiti when a group of volunteers came together to scrub it away.

"Once the images of the graffiti were published online lots of residents kept saying they wanted to help.

"A group of them went down to the play area this morning and cleaned off the graffiti and it was just a great representation of the great community spirit we have here in Wembdon."

Cllr Gliddon said the crime has been reported to the police who are now investigating the incident.
