A MAN who suffered head injuries falling from a boat into the sea near Hinkley Point was saved by RNLI and Coastguard volunteers.
Burnham-on-Sea RNLI joined the Coastguard to evacuate the man, who had reportedly fallen while working on a vessel near Hinkley Point, hitting their head in the process and landing in the Bristol Channel.
The Burnham RNLI B Class and D Class lifeboats were launched at 5.17pm on Wednesday, August 16, and the Barry Dock all weather lifeboat was also paged as it was uncertain where the casualty would be taken due to the falling tide.
RNLI volunteers managed to rescue the man, and took him ashore in the B Class to be treated by the waiting ambulance crew.
Burnham-on-Sea helmsman Nick Edrich said: "The person was extremely relieved to receive lifeboat assistance. Given the height of the fall he was very lucky that the injury wasn’t as serious as first thought.
"He was also dressed in full safety equipment including a lifejacket which without doubt avoided what could have been a very different outcome."
