JOB seekers are being given a helping hand to make the most of the Hinkley Point C project through one-to-one drop-in sessions.

Staff from EDF Energy’s dedicated Hinkley Point C Jobs Service have started monthly drop-ins at the new Under Construction employment and training hub in West Quay Close, Bridgwater, and plans are in the pipeline to hold additional sessions in the Hinkley Point Visitor Centre in Angel Place, Bridgwater.

The staff on hand will highlight training opportunity and job vacancies available now and ones coming up in the future.

Louise Brown, Hinkley Point C employment and skills manager, said: “The sessions are aimed at residents who can drop in and enquire about all things Hinkley C – and they’d be surprised at the variety of jobs on offer.

“Any questions on skills and training, how to find and register for jobs, types of roles available and so on can all be answered by the jobs team.”

The next planned drop-ins at Under Construction will take place on Wednesday, August 23, from 10am to 12 noon and on Wednesday, September 20, from 10am to 12 noon.

The sessions run alongside other dedicated recruitment events, with two planned for the site operations team next month.

The first will take place on Thursday, September 14, at the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre, in Bridgwater, from 4pm to 7pm and the second on Saturday, September 23, from 4pm to 7pm, at The Beach Hotel, in Minehead.

The aim of the Hinkley Point C Jobs Service is to ensure that people are able to access employment opportunities both during construction and the operation of the new nuclear power station.

The service is a partnership between EDF Energy, JobCentre Plus, the local authorities and other local support organisations and training providers.

As well as matching people to available jobs and other opportunities, the service team delivers programmes to help people into work and provides support for training centres to ensure people have the skills needed by employers.

Mrs Brown added: “The construction and operation of Hinkley Point C will create thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities in a broad range of occupations and careers, ranging from civil engineering and hospitality to security and administration.”
