A BRIDGWATER nightclub will stop running one its youth nights after a large fracas broke out which required police intervention.

Officers had to disperse more than 100 young people as they spilled out onto the streets following an Under 18's event at Fever Nightclub on Penel Orlieu.

Video footage captured by a nearby resident shoes the young people screaming and shouting in an unruly fashion.

Speaking at Bridgwater Town Council on Thursday night, Sgt Joe Piscina described the scenes as 'carnage'.

He said: "We have a good working relationship with Fever and have agreed to drop the Thursday night event. "There will still be youth nights on Wednesdays, but only having one will help us concentrate our resources."

Fever posted a statement on Facebook which said: “Further to last night’s under 18 event, the management would like to point out that this is the fifth under 18’s event we have run, always at holiday times due to teens complaining they had nothing to do.

"We have never had any problems previously on these nights. Last night was an exception. There was no indication inside that there may be a problem which could leak into the street."

“The nights are run with no alcohol and with stop and search on the door, with strict control inside."
