STUDENTS, parents and staff celebrated the outstanding achievement of students in every year group at this year’s Haygrove Honours Evening.

Seventy-two awards were presented by headteacher, Karen Canham and guest speaker Simon Bissett, an educational advisor who is working with the school to develop the Haygrove Academy Trust partnership with nearby primary schools.

Staff had a difficult task choosing which of the nominees in each category should receive an Honours Award trophy, certificate and gift voucher in recognition of their progress during the last year.

Awards were given in each school subject and two students from each year group were recognised for ‘Best Attitude to Learning’ and ‘Outstanding Progress’ respectively.

Year 10 student Molly Pickles was presented with the ‘John Hoare Music Award’ which was introduced last year in honour of retired assistant headteacher, John Hoare, and celebrates one student’s exceptional talent and contribution to music at the school.

The ‘Student of the Year' awards were given to Joshua Hurford (Year 7), Callum Giles (Year 8), Amelia Savage (Year 9) and Eleanor Newman (Year 10) in recognition of their hard work across a range of subjects.

Parents were also treated to musical and speaking performances by students Devon Salinas-Ordonez (Year 10), Molly Pickles (Year 10), Mia July Andrews (Year 9), Alisha Hossein (Year 7) and Luke Chetland (Year 7).

Headteacher Mrs Canham said: “Honours Evening is a very special event as it allows us to collectively recognise and celebrate those students in our school who have shown exceptional endeavour and achievement this year.”
