BRIDGWATER College Academy looks set to massively increase in size with £7 million of investment to expand the facilities at the school.
To tackle the rising demand for school places, the proposal is to take the number of secondary aged students from the current 790 up to 1,200 by 2023.
The plan is for Bridgwater College Academy to become an 'all-through school' and a new large building will be created on the site.
A spokesman for Bridgwater College Academy said: "This will allow us to knock down some of our very old classrooms and build up to 16 new classrooms, which will mainly be brand new science classrooms, as well as new dining facilities, office space, a single large library for the whole campus as well as one main reception for the Academy."
Once the final decision is approved in the summer, architects will start to work on the designs, including alterations to the road which currently passes through the site.
The school also wants to put in new footpaths to allow the free flow of students and staff across the Polden and Quantock campuses.
A final decision will also be taken on a new sports hall for primary aged students this autumn.
A consultation event is being held tomorrow (Monday, July 17) at the Polden Theatre between 5pm and 7pm where people will be able to come and discuss the proposals and ask questions.
