A NEWLY-developed hub for Wembdon’s church community was officially unveiled at a special ceremony.

The new building, at St George’s Church, sits on the site of the church’s previous outbuildings and was partly funded by grant money with the rest coming from members of the congregation who donated to the cause.

The Bishop of Bath and Wells, the Right Reverend Peter Hancock officially opened the new facility at a ceremony on Saturday, June 24.

Reverend Dr Ed Moll of St George’s Church made a speech at the ceremony and expressed his thanks to the groups of people who had to find temporary accommodation while works took place to complete the project.

“We are really pleased with the building.,” he said.

“We are looking forward to showing it off and welcoming people back to the new community hub here at St George’s.”

The project was overseen by Nick Ratcliff, an architect for Greenslade Taylor Hunt.

Mr Ratcliff, who is a parishoner at St George’s Church has been heavily involved with the project from the start.

He designed the building, obtained planning permission and saw the project through to its fruition, working with a strong team from St George’s.

Cllr Mike Cresswell, chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, also attended the event and praised the community effort involved.

He said: “There has been an incredible amount of hard work by many, many people, so well done to everyone.”
