STUDENTS from Haygrove School have been all about the interesting history and significance of architecture in Bridgwater.

They even had the chance to design and construct a modern city of their own during a ‘Cities Re-imagined’ workshop delivered by local architect Richard Carman.

The two-part programme is part of Bridgwater Arts Centre’s celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the CIAM 6 (Congres International d’Architecture Moderne) Conference which was held in the town in 1947, and aims to inspire young people about architecture and city design and give them an insight to the diverse roles they can play in shaping their own urban spaces.

A spokesman for Haygrove School said: "Working in groups, the team of budding architects got to work using glue guns to build individual buildings from wooden blocks which included some very inventive and interesting designs"

The workshop finished by combining all the structures together to form a city scape which the students then sketched.

‘Cities Re-imagined’ will culminate in a young people’s Conference Re-enactment at Bridgwater Arts Centre on the Monday, July 10 where the Haygrove students' work will be exhibited.
