A YOUNG man who broke into his mother's house in North Petherton and stole her new mobile phone has been told he will be sent to jail if he appears in court again.
Joseph Sutcliffe, 22, of Union Street, Bridgwater, smashed a window while his mother was out and took the £125 phone which had not been taken out of its packaging.
He was handed an 18-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months after Judge David Ticehurst heard his offending had stopped and he has since been reconciled with his mother.
The court heard that Sutcliffe wants to "stop giving any more distress to his mother" following the recent death of his sister.
But the judge warned Sutcliffe: "If you go back to your old ways - drugs, breaking into people's property, hurting your mother - you'll see me again.
"And next time you see me, you're going to prison."
