HAVE you ever wanted to give back and do some volunteering?

Bridgwater's new employment hub 'Under Construction' and You Can Do (CSW Group) are hosting an event to encourage residents to volunteer for their community.

The event on June 6 will see representatives from a variety of organisations including Inland Waterways and Citizens Advice hold hourly sessions to showvital they are and what is in it for the people that do it.

One of the organisers from Sedgemoor District Council said: "Volunteering makes a real difference and that brings with it a feel good factor so that's one of the main reasons for doing it.

"Another reason for volunteering is that it can give you valuable skills that are needed in the workplace. A third benefit is that it can introduce you to worlds and environments you have not encountered before and these in turn can bring new opportunities.

"Bonus number four is that you can meet people in positions of influence who will appreciate what you are doing and are happy to provide references for you.  Reason number five is that volunteering is actually good for your health, reducing stress and giving a sense of purpose.

Sue Hunter, Lead Volunteer Engagement Adviser for You Can Do, added a sixth ingredient to this mix saying, "As a volunteer you become part of a supportive team, get to engage with your local community and in doing so establish some really lasting friendships".

The event will run from 1pm to 6pm at Under Construction at Lions House on West Quay Close in Bridgwater.
