MORE than 400,000 people could be making their way to the ballot box for Somerset County Council elections which are now just a week away.

Some 418,000 plus residents are registered to vote for one of the 230 prospective councillors vying for their support on Thursday, May 4, with 55 seats available across the county.

A spokesperson for Somerset County Council said: “There’s only a week to go before polling day and we whole-heartedly encourage everyone who is registered to vote to come out on May 4 and use it.

“This only happens once every four years and is the chance to help decide who represents your community in an organisation responsible for services that have an impact on everyone’s day-to-day lives."

Polling will take place between 7am and 10pm on Thursday May 4 at 446 polling stations.

The polling stations include the oldest polling station in the South West at Muchelney, the skittle alley at the Flying Horse in Taunton Deane and a private house in Bury, West Somerset.

Number of seats on Somerset County Council: 55.

Mendip 11, Sedgemoor 12, South Somerset 17, Taunton Deane 11 and West Somerset 4.
