MEMBERS of Bridgwater Senior Citizens’ Forum will meet with representatives of youth organisations in the Bridgwater area.

The meeting will take place on Saturday, April 22, at 2pm, in the Engine Room.

Members will learn about the current issues and problems facing young people – in particular, mental health, benefits sanctions, wage equality, unemployment and homelessness.

Representatives from the South West Youth Parliament will talk about their campaign to highlight growing levels of mental ill-health among young people and the need for better mental health provision.

A member Unite Community will describe the effect on his health and well-being when benefits sanctions were imposed on him.

Dave Chapple, from Bridgwater Trades Union Council will highlight the unfairness of wage inequality, which allows 16-25 year olds to be paid less than their older colleagues.

Bridgwater councillor Diogo Rodrigues will also speak.

Senior Citizens’ Forum chair Mick Duggan said: “Last year we made a film with local young people called In It Together, and that made us aware of the struggles faced by today’s young people for decent jobs, homes and education.

"We want to work together to address these problems.

"Please come along and join the discussion If you are concerned about any of these issues."
