NORTH Petherton needs a new secondary school to accommodate the growing population, a councillor has claimed.
Sedgemoor District Councillor for North Petherton Bill Revans is backing the campaign, having worked as a secondary school history teacher in Somerset throughout his career.
"There has been massive housing development between Bridgwater and Taunton in the last ten years and this has put pressure on school places in both towns," Cllr Revans said.
"It is only right that schools should be built in the areas where the new housing is, as this will minimise school time traffic congestion and keep our kids safe on the way to school," he added.
Cllr Revans initially raised the issue in 2013 but says 'the issue has become more urgent now.'
