THE Sedgemoor Licensed Victuallers Association (SLVA) went out with a bang this weekend.

The group has sadly disbanded after 63 years due to changes in licensing laws, pub closures and frequent licensee turnarounds over the past few years.

On Friday, December 2, the SLVA held its final Annual Banquet and Ball at the Bridgwater and Albion Rugby Clubhouse and saw members past and present turn out for a fantastic send off.

One of the organisers Dave Perrin said: "It was quite amazing, we had lots of people, it was really good turnout.

"Many of those who came have been attending for years. When the committee disbanded earlier this year we said this would be it - but although the organisation has ended a lot of people want the Ball to remain an annual event.

"There were one or two tears during the evening - it is such a popular event."

SLVA chairman Graham Palmer said: "This organisation has been an integral part of the licensed trade in Bridgwater for many years."

Guests enjoyed a superb four-course meal and entertainment from Boogie Avenue.
