BRIDGWATER & Taunton College dance department is celebrating a string of success stories after a number of its graduating students moved onto some of the most prestigious dance schools and colleges both within the UK and in Spain.

The dancers studied either the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in dance or A Level dance and some studied both programmes simultaneously throughout their time at college.

They all faced tough competition through auditions and interviews and are now starting on their new courses as a result of their excellent grades.

Aeron Preston and Alice Best are now attending Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds.

Curtis Hill and Olivia Harvey are now studying at the Institute of the Arts in Barcelona.

Liam Hill, who is now attending Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London, said: “Studying the BTEC Extended Diploma and A level dance courses simultaneously gave me a feel of what training five days a week would be like, as well as providing me with lots of opportunities to choreograph and perform.

"I also got to learn how to actually earn money in the dance industry in our 'business' module, and use valuable life skills when going on trips abroad to places like New York City and Paris.

"Not only are the dance courses challenging and fulfilling, but also allow your passion for dance to grow. In the future, I hope to join a professional Contemporary company, such as Rambert or The Balletboyz, and tour performances with them”

The Level 3 dance programmes at Bridgwater & Taunton College offer students the opportunity to learn a variety of skills in a variety of dance genres as well as giving students a real taste of the industry through teaching experience and creating large-scale productions.

Amy Wigglesworth, curriculum manager of performing arts, dance and drama, said: “Our dance programmes are varied and taught by professionals who have or are still working within the industry.

"The dancers are trained in a variety of genres during their time with us including contemporary, jazz, tap and ballet and as a result are versatile and prepared for their auditions and for the industry. We are incredibly proud of all of their achievements.”
