FAST food fans could soon be enjoying fare from a drive-thru chicken restaurant in Bridgwater.

A planning application has been submitted for a KFC restaurant on the south side of land at East Quay, to the rear of the Asda supermarket in the town.

The planning application says the restaurant, measuring 27m in length by 11m in width, would feature a counter service as well as the drive-thru facility.

Documents submitted to Sedgemoor District Council by the applicant, Asda Stores Ltd, read: “The application seeks planning permission for the development of a drive-thru restaurant, to be operated by KFC, together with customer parking, access facilities and associated landscaping.“The restaurant will offer customers the choice of eating within the restaurant or ‘take away’ from either the counter or from the drive-thru lane.”

The documents added: “The accommodation includes entrance, serving counter area, dining area, kitchen, store, toilets and back of house facilities.

“A drive-thru facility is also to be provided with a separate driveway around the building.”

If the preferred siting option is approved for the restaurant, a new access to the site would be created from East Quay, along with parking for 23 vehicles. The application also says diners would mean “customers will have a prime view overlooking the River and historic townscape along West Quay”.

Residents can have their say on the plans, with a decision due not before November 11, at www.sedgemoor.gov.uk, application reference 08/16/00171.
