AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a 14-year-old girl from Bridgwater was allegedly attacked.

A video surfaced on social media showing a girl being held up against a fence and being punched and kicked by two other girls as dozens of teenagers watched on.

It is believed the incident happened outside Bridgwater College Academy, on Wednesday afternoon.

Now, Avon and Somerset Police and Bridgwater College have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

A spokesman for police said: “We received a call yesterday afternoon about an assault on a 14-year-old girl which happened in Parkway, Bridgwater, at about 3pm.

“Three girls have been identified as a result of our enquiries and they’ll be interviewed about the incident.

“We’ll be keeping the victim and her family updated as the inquiry progresses.”

Peter Elliott, Chief Executive Officer of the Bridgwater College Trust, said: "Bridgwater College Academy senior staff are working closely with the police to identify the youths who are not students at the Academy but clearly at the centre of this incident.

"There will be a full investigation of the events that took place and appropriate consequences will be applied by the police and Academy as required."
