FIREFIGHTERS are battling a huge barn fire in Wedmore.

Fire control received a call just before midnight last night alerting them to the blaze, in Crickham, Wedmore.

Crews from Cheddar, Burnham-on-Sea, Wells and Bridgwater were called to the fire and are still in attendance at the blaze.

On arrival, crews confirmed that a barn measuring five metres by 10 metres, containing barrels of hay, was well alight.

It is not yet known if any livestock has been hurt in the incident.

Firefighters got to work tackling the fire using hose reel jets and compressed air foam jets.

It is not yet known what started the fire.

A spokesman for the fire service said crews are expected to be at the location "for some time".
