IT was a bloomin' great weekend for flower enthusiasts near Bridgwater as four villages held their annual flower shows.

Residents from Puriton, Woolavington, Pawlett and North Petherton gathered at their respective shows to see the artistic floral displays.

It was the 113th flower show held by the North Petherton and District Horticultural Society, and was held at the community centre in the village.

Hordes of people flocked to the event, which opened at 2.30pm, with the presentation of trophies at 4pm.

As well as the flowers, there were a wide variety of fruit, vegetables, photographs, paintings, and handicrafts for the viewers to enjoy. The number of entries in the flower and vegetable classes were well down on previous years, due to two main exhibitors suffering illnesses and the challenging growing conditions during spring and early summer.

However, the standard of entries remained high and M Capaldi picked up the The Dawes Farm Cup Highest points in Show award.

Over in Puriton, it was the 37th time the show was held in the village hall.

Visitors to the show were treated to a lovely display of flowers, floral art, vegetables, fruit, cooking and crafts, with entries from 73 people from the village producing 451 entries.

During the afternoon, Burnham and Highbridge band entertained people on the playing fields, along with a display of 10 Italian Cars. There was a display from the village allotments group and several car booters were also present for those looking for a bargain.

In Pawlett, crowds flocked to the show, with judging taking place from 10.30am until midday, and the show opening up to the public at 3pm.

But, it wasn't just flowers keeping the crowds entertained, as there was also people donned in fancy dress and a band performing.

Residents also flocked to the Woolavington village flower show. As well as the usual display of floral art and vegetables and fruit, there was also a zumba class and an auction.
