A SILAGE pit caught fire this morning in Wedmore.
Engines from Cheddar, two from Burnham on Sea and one from Bridgwater, along with the water carrier from Bridgwater were called to Poolbridge Road in Blackford around 6am this morning.
Crews arrived a partially open barn to find the fire well alight and got to work setting into a hydrant with one main jet.
A further two engines from Glastonbury and Wells were called. The incident command unit from Street and the telehandler from Exeter were also called.
The barn measured 25 metres by 50 metres and was partly open. A large area of silage was covered by tarpaulin and tyres.
Crews surrounded the fire using three attack jets, one compressed air foam jet, one safety jet, drag forks and small tools.
A spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service: "The fire is now out, but crews are still there dampening hot spots.
"The cause of the fire was accidental."
