I’ve said it before and no doubt I shall say it again – Bridgwater has a huge amount of talented people. We all know about the amazing carnival clubs and the concerts they put on each year, and also our panto and operatic societies. Another talented group of people are the JH Variety performers and JH Variety kids. I’ve had the pleasure of working with them for the last few years, and I will once again be compering the show next month at the Town Hall. To date the total the shows have raised over the years (this will be the 16th) is over £80,000 for Brainwave. A fantastic total with more to come.

They say life is a circle and everything eventually comes back round, which is good news for my wardrobe. I will look trendy in my turquoise tank top again one day! My reason for mentioning this, the circle not the tank top, is that there were four of us who worked together to bring about Bridgwater’s original radio station BCRfm. This week for the first time since 1999 the four of us are reunited on air. If you’re already a regular listener you’ll know that in addition to my show, Nick Rickards and Jackie Sealey can be heard each weekday. From this week we’ve been joined by Mark Painter who is looking after the afternoon drivetime show for a few weeks proving that things do go round in circles. Maybe I should hang on to that tank top a little longer.

Finally, the answer to last week’s teaser: In which year was the constituency of Bridgwater first represented in Parliament? The answer? 1295. This week’s teaser: How did Susan Wallace of Bridgwater make history? No cheating, I’ll give you the answer in next week’s column. Have a great week.
