THE red ribbon cutting will mark the opening of new extended facilities at Bridgwater’s The Engine Room on Friday.

Bridgwater Town Mayor elect Alex Glassford, Councillor Liz Leavy and local animator Barnaby Dixon will be in attendance to celebrate the reclaiming of the redundant building next door to the Engine Room on the High Street.

First opened in 2003, The Engine Room is a community media centre managed by charity Somerset Film, an organisation ‘dedicated to empowering people and communities through film and digital media’.

The group have had support from Arts Council England, Sedgemoor District Council, Bridgwater Town Council, and donations from supporters.

Duncan Pyle, director of O2i Design said: “It has been a great pleasure working with The Engine Room since 2012, helping them secure funding and designing new accessible spaces for them to provide even more of their fantastic installations and courses. We very much look forward to the opening of the first stage later this month.”

To begin with the ground floor has been brought into use with the upper storeys coming on stream over the coming year as funds permit.

Following the opening ceremony at 1pm, the building will re-open at 6pm for an immersive sound and light experience.

The installation will be open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm until June 10 and entry is free.
