PUBLIC Services students from Bridgwater College got a taste of working with the boys in blue this week when they visited the local police station.

Twenty-one sixth form students studying Level 2 Public and Emergency Services visited the state-of-the-art facilities at Bridgwater police station to gain understanding and experience of the service.

The group where given a tour by Sergeant Simon Smith who hoped the day would highlight the importance of educating young people about the custodial system.

Student Jemima Williams, from Bridgwater, said: "It was an eye-opening experience. It was great to learn more about the various parts of the custody process, for example the different levels of people in custody."

Course leader Tyne Govier said: “We use these types of visit to inspire our students and to help them understand and experience service life and the expectations that come with it. It also allows them to work with professionals within the industry, which will only benefit them in their future careers.”
