Firefighters from Bridgwater were called out yesterday evening after the occupant of a home in the town returned to find it full of smoke.

Two fire engines from Bridgwater were sent to a property on Witches Walk just after 11pm.

A fire and rescue spokesman said the initial call from the occupant  was after they returned to the house and found it full of smoke following a fire that had occurred while they were out.

The spokesman added: "On arrival the crew confirmed that there had been a fire that had originated in the kitchen of the property but was now out.

"Crews made sure the property was completely safe using a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots and also isolated the electrics.

Most of the damage was confined to 10% of the kitchen whilst the rest of the ground floor suffered 80% smoke damage.

Fire investigation was undertaken with the cause being undetermined but believe it could have been electrical.
