HUNDREDS of families visited the Narrow Gauge Gala at Westonzoyland Pumping Station over the Bank Holiday. The event is a celebration of the smaller trains that run on Britain's railways including the one at Westonzoyland. Jason Keswick of the Trust that runs the attraction said the day had featured a Barclay engine from North Wales and a Lister Rail Truck from Gloucestershire.

He said: "We do well on days when it's not hot as people like to come here as it's mostly undercover. It's mainly families and also steam enthusiasts today and because it's been so successful we plan to make it an annual event." The attraction is open every Sunday through to October 4, when there's a special steam day. The station features its own pumping engine, the Easton and Amos built in 1861. The next big event is on Sunday, September 13, from 12noon-5pm with an open day with free entry.
