THE Royal British Legion women’s section Bridgwater branch recently celebrated its 90th anniversary, having been formed in 1925.

Members, plus former members were joined by the chairman of Sedgemoor District Council and his wife and the Mayor and Mayoress of Bridgwater at a service at the Baptist Church.

The service was led by the Rev Rosemary Eaton and the exhortation was read by Ann Wilson, a legion member and ex-WREN.

This was followed by a reception at the former Castle Club with a celebration cake cut by the president of the county, Kath Sparks, and the branch vice-chairman, Jan Morton.

The county president spoke of the importance of the women’s section in order to continue the work of the Royal British Legion and she congratulated the branch on a remarkable 90 years.

The photographs show the president and the vice-chairman cutting the cake and the standard bearers who carried the standards into the church prior to the service.

Allisson Goddard, a member of the local Army Cadets, is the new standard bearer for the Bridgwater branch and this was her first official function.

Meetings are held at Asda on the first Thursday of the month at 2pm.

Funds are needed to help both current and ex-servicemen.
