A SCHEME to set vulnerable young people in Somerset on the road to a permanent job has received a £100,000 boost.

Somerset County Council has funded Pathway to Employment, which gives vulnerable young people work-based training and experience.

Since the project was launched in 2013, 46 people have been supported into a variety of roles across the council.

They may have been in care or have a disability or learning difficulties and might have found it difficult to find employment.

Young people have gained new skills in children’s centres, nurseries, schools, transport, IT and catering.

If you know a young person who would benefit from the scheme, get in touch with Clive Mallon at cmallon@ somerset.gov.uk

Cllr Anna Groskop, cabinet member for HR, health and transformation, said: “The scheme has been a great success since its launch and we want to build on that.”
