A BRAZEN burglar walked past a sleeping mother and her baby in Bridgwater to steal money and belongings after finding the door of her house unlocked.

Police are linking a couple of burglary attempts in Bridgwater on the same night which involved a gang of teenagers trying doors of homes and walking in if they found them open.

One teenager barged into the home of Robyn Farrance, in Marina Row, who was asleep next to her four-month-old baby Daisy on the sofa.

He made off with cash on the table, her baby changing bag, purse and i Phone, which contained special photos of her baby, which are irreplaceable. The break-in happened at around 11.30pm to 12.45pm on May 16. Two other teenagers are believed to have been standing guard outside.

Robyn told the Mercury: “I was very shaken by this. It’s horrible to think they’ve been in my home and walked past me. They probably boasted that I was asleep the whole time.

“They also took tobacco. I had opened the door to get a takeaway and then the baby was crying which distracted me and I forgot to lock it. I’m very upset about this as the pictures on my phone were of my daughter and were priceless.

“They must be pretty heartless to do that. At least they didn’t touch me or my baby. I think they thought the baby changing bag was my handbag, so they dumped that when they found out it did not have any money in it.”

There has been another report of a man walking through the front door of a home in Mercer Way, who fled when spotted by the homeowner who asked him what he was doing. Police say there was another report of an attempt burglary in Colley Lane on the same night.

A police press spokesman said: “An attempted burglary was reported on May 16 at property in Colley Lane, shortly before midnight. There was a burglary reported in Marina Row at about 2.45am on May 17, where the suspect took number of items, including a wallet and purse containing cash and credit cards, a mobile phone and keys. A baby bag and changing mat, which were also taken, were discarded and later found.

“Police enquiries are continuing into both burglaries, which we believe may be connected.

“The suspect is a white man, aged about 17, who was wearing a parka style jacket with a fur-lined hood.
