A HERITAGE and restoration project at a medieval well has been given a £8,700 Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

A ‘sound walk’, artwork and creative writing produced about the 16th Century St Agnes Holy Well in Cothelstone will be produced as an ‘app’.

Students from Bridgwater College will learn about the well and cultivate plants found in medieval times to enhance the beauty of St Agnes.

County and parish councillor Mike Rigby has also donated £500 towards the scheme, believed to be the only project of its kind in the country.

Debbie McKenna, of Community Life Design CIC, who will manage the project, said: “We’re excited to have this opportunity to broaden the scope of the students’ involvement.

“They’ve been maintaining the site for the past four years, so it’s wonderful to be able to reward them with such a great project, and with the ‘app’ this ensures that many more people will be able to learn about this valuable heritage for years to come.”
