TWO workers at a Bridgwater sports club were subjected to a terrifying ordeal when they were trapped inside the clubhouse during a vandal attack.

The attack happened early last Tuesday morning at Bridgwater and Albion Rugby Club when events co-ordinator Michelle Lang and cleaner Lin Galloway were the only people in the building.

Speaking to the Mercury, Michelle told how the pair were left shaken as they were forced to lock themselves in the kitchen when they heard the sound of the clubhouse windows being smashed and screams and shouts from outside.

Michelle said: “It was terrifying at the time because we didn’t know what their intentions were.

“We’d just gone back inside after a cigarette break and then heard this smash and all this shouting.

“We locked ourselves in the kitchen and didn’t come out until it was over.” “I’m still a bit shaken up by it.”

Lin Galloway, who works as a cleaner at the club, added: “It was just horrific.

“Now when I’m at work I just keep looking about and every noise makes you jump.”

It is the second act of vandalism to hit the club in recent months after a car belonging to one of the club’s players was stolen and driven onto the pitch causing significant damage to the playing surface over Christmas.

It is unknown if the two incidents are linked.

Speaking about the most recent attack, which caused damage amounting to more than £750, Scott Williams, bar manager at the club, said: “It’s disgusting.

“It was just a mindless act of vandalism.

“We’re looking at putting up more security cameras to hopefully stop it happening again.”

“We’re a really tight club and there are a lot of people who want to know what’s going on and why this has happened.”

Police are currently investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to contact them on 101 quoting crime reference number 6804/15 or call crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
