FITNESS enthusiasts are pushing themselves to the limit to help make life a little easier for disabled and disadvantaged children and young people.

1610, which runs 19 leisure centres in the South-West, including 14 in Somerset, has chosen Wooden Spoon as its charity of the year for 2015.

It is organising a series of triathlons and 10k races as well as several sponsored events such as superhero sports days, water bingo and rugby tournaments over the next 12 months.

Staff and members of 1610 raised almost £20,000 for its 2014 charity of the year Macmillan Cancer Support.
