THREE fire engines from Bridgwater were sent to a first floor flat fire at Southbourne House in West Street just after 3pm.
On arrival the crew confirmed that a first floor flat was well alight and got to work fighting the fire using four breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and a triple extension ladder.
Western Power to isolate power to the block of flats.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire Serivce said: "The fire was eventually confirmed as being in the hallway of the first floor flat and extinguished using the equipment."
A male casualty was treated at the scene by paramedics after suffering from smoke inhalation.
