THE Tesco development planned for Bridgwater’s Northgate site will be the focus of a special meeting of Sedgemoor District Council tomorrow (Wednesday).
The meeting will take place in the Sedgemoor Room of Bridgwater House in King Square at 2.30pm.
Bob Cudlipp, chairman of the group Bridgwater Forward, said: “If this meeting is to inform members that Tesco will not be building a Tesco Extra on the site, so be it.
“In the light of the media coverage about Tesco I would think it unlikely that any supermarket is to be built on this site.
“They have not signed the S106 agreement and not bought the site.
“I look forward to the outcome of this exempt special meeting.”
This week Tesco announced that it is looking at selling off “non-core property” as it attempts to restore its balance sheet.
Tesco issued its fourth profit warning last week, sparking another sharp dive in its shares.
