BRIDGWATER College’s language students have enjoyed recent success in this year’s Vocabexpress Championships.

The 22 students studying Alevel and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme answered a total of 9,640 questions over the weeklong competition.

The top scorer for French was Jess McAlister, 17, from Bridgwater, followed by Olivia Reed, 16, from St George, Bristol, who answered questions in French and Italian.

Student Vicki Clark, 17, said: “I have found Vocabexpress a valuable tool for learning vocabulary.

“It completely surpasses just reading from a textbook and it really does cement words in your brain, with particular accuracy in spelling, which is a real personal benefit for me.”

Fellow language student Katie Shanahan, 17, said: “It not only helped me to learn the vocabulary I needed, but gave me the extra motivation to do it, as I was representing the College.”

Irena Hubble- Brezowski, programme manager for French said: “Congratulations to the 22 students who have proved themselves to be language geniuses.

“They very much enjoyed taking part, which spurred them on to learn words needed for their course and to find out about other languages.”
