SOMERSET County Council wants your views on whether community pharmacies provide the right services to help shape their future provision.

Currently services provided by community pharmacies include filling prescriptions and repeat prescriptions, selling medicines that don't need to be prescribed by a doctor, giving advice about medicines and supporting people to quit smoking.

The consultation started yesterday (Monday) and continues until November 6. It is asking people who use community pharmacies to tell the council what they need, what works well and any improvements they feel could be made.

Cllr Christine Lawrence, chair of Somerset Health and Wellbeing board at Somerset County Council, said: “We want to ensure good services are provided for our customers now and in future and understanding the thoughts and views of those who currently use community pharmacies is an important part of ensuring that.”

“The results from this public consultation and other feedback will form the Somerset Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment which will be used to help effective commissioning of future pharmaceutical needs."
