DRIVERS in Bridgwater are being challenged to leave their cars at home to win prizes in an online competition run by The Bridgwater Way.

The Bridgwater Way Challenge allows the town’s residents and workers to collect points, unlock discount vouchers and be entered into weekly prize draws; simply by taking to their feet or their bikes instead of the car.

The interactive, online compet-ition, which will see teams around Bridgwater competing to get their friends and colleagues signing up and logging journeys from September 1 to October 15 to be in with the chance of winning prizes such as High Street vouchers, Kindles and iPod shuffles.

Prizes will be awarded to the person who makes the most journeys and teams who get the highest rate of participation within their group or workplace.

Cllr David Hall, cabinet member for business, inward investment and policy, said: “The Bridgwater Way wants to encourage people to try a new way of travelling in Bridgwater and rewards those are already making healthy, environmentally friendly travel decisions. Once people have tried it, they usually recognise the benefits and carry on doing it.

“This Challenge is the perfect excuse to see if leaving the car at home can save you time, money and help increase your fitness.”

People can sign up for the by visiting thebridgwaterway.getme active.org.uk then upload their journeys onto the website, where they can see how many calories they have burned and how much money they have saved by choosing healthy and cheap alternatives to driving.

You can also sign up with The Bridgwater Way Challenge Roadshow team who are visiting shopping centres, workplaces and community groups across Bridg-water, offering travel information and goodie bags for those signing up.
