BRIDGWATER police are benefiting from a specialised van which carries mountain bikes, allowing them to cover more ground faster.

As part of the force-wide Operation Velo, PCSOs Dan Wheller and Nick Mizon have been benefiting from a ‘police bike van’.

The specially adapted marked police van carries two mountain bikes inside.

Insp Andy Pritchard said: “Although many of our team already use bikes, this van enables Dan and Nick to travel right across Sedgemoor, taking their cycling skills wherever they are most needed.

“This cycling team has already assisted a search team in Burnham, following an allegation of a sexual assault.

“There they were able to cycle through parks and lanes which are not accessible to police cars.

“Contact your local policing team if you can think of a time or place that Dan and Nick can help.”
