A STAFF member at a local gaming centre is to trek 100 kilometres across the world’s hottest desert and is appealing for local support to help raise £50,000 for charity.
Phil Gibbs, marketing manager at Cashino in Fore Street, Bridgwater, will walk across The Sahara to raise money for The Responsible Gambling Trust, a national charity which encourages people to gamble responsibly through education and provides treatment services for people with gambling problems.
Phil is one of 24 people, representing different sectors of the gambling industry, taking part in the desert trek and has set himself the personal challenge of raising £3,000.
Phil said: “I must admit, the prospect of walking for days across the largest desert on the African continent was slightly daunting, especially when I found out how hot it’s going to be; but it will be worth it if we hit our fundraising target.”
