STAFF at Bridgwater’s Angel Place shopping centre have been clearing up after a car reversed into the entrance.

Shoppers darted out of the way as a black Toyota Yaris, driven by an elderly woman, reversed through the main doors and into a shop window on Tuesday (February 26).

Police cordoned off the area and an ambulance and fire team attended the scene of the incident, which occurred around 12.55pm.

The driver was taken away on a stretcher to Musgrove Park Hospital with neck injuries.

A police spokesman said: “The driver was complaining of neck pain and the car contained a male passenger.

“A pedestrian was slightly injured and the window and associated brickwork has been damaged.”

The car was recovered and the area was cleared and made safe by staff at the shopping centre.

Roger Smith, centre manager at Angel Place, said: “We have staff on site 24-hours a day to ensure no one is harmed or enters the area.

“The Cheque Centre is the only store which has been affected by the incident, as well as the three doors to the Centre, but is now trading as normal.

“The emergency services and security staff on site were tremendous in handling the incident and we hope all involved have a speedy recovery and we wish them well.”
