ASDA has won permission to extend delivery hours at its Bridgwater store so lorries can leave from as early as 5am.
The supermarket said it needed earlier deliveries for its home shopping service, and said its current delivery regime was “far from satisfactory”.
Julian Taylor, district councillor for Eastover, said people living in Church Street, near the store, were concerned about extra noise.
Asda said it had issued guidance to staff to minimise disturbance.
Its plans were approved by a single vote at this week’s Sedgemoor District Council development control committee meeting.
