MORE than 150 children from Catcott Primary School have signed a community banner in support of the redevelopment of a museum.

The banner for the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury is part of a campaign being run by the Somerset Heritage Service, part of Somerset County Council.

The heritage service is in the process of applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to redevelop the museum.

Head teacher Michael Ellis said: “As a school which uses the museum regularly, we are delighted to support their application for Heritage Lottery Funding.”

The museum has not undergone major redevelopment since the 1970s, and displays and visitor facilities are becoming increasingly outdated and in need of improvement.

The plans would ensure it continues to tell the rich story of Somerset’s rural and social history, improve physical and intellectual access and provide a dedicated space for learning and community activities.

David Hall, Somerset County Council's Cabinet Member for Heritage Services, said: “The signatures will not only help raise the profile of the bid but will also become part of the story of the new museum in a display of how we came together as a county to protect and promote our heritage – creating a lasting legacy.”
