Cannington landlord patches up pub after flooding
7:00am Wednesday 28th November 2012 in Bridgwater Area News
Pub landlord Mike Andison asked a farmer to place hay stacks in front of the pub - but it didn't stop the floodwater.
LANDLORDS of a Cannington pub are still assessing the damage after flood water invaded the whole building within an hour.
Mike and Linda Andison, of The Friendly Spirit, watched hopelessly as the water made its way up the garden, car park and into the pub between 11pm and 12am.
Mike said: “At 11pm it was fine. Then by 12am the bar area was under around six inches of water.
“We were up until 4.30am this morning clearing up and trying to get rid of the water, which has gone down now, but we’re still assessing the damage.”
The couple had put barriers in place after the deluge on Wednesday but it didn’t stop the fast flow of the water last night.
“The water just overcame the bridge,” said Mike.
“The council needs to have a look at the depth of the brook and look at outing in more drainage or a flood diversion.”
